Transportation to Our Lady of Mercy Academy
Our Lady of Mercy Academy students travel from Nassau and Suffolk Counties, as well as portions of Queens County. State law mandates that districts provide transportation to OLMA if a student resides within 15 miles of our school. Please contact your district directly to receive the most up-to-date information. A list of districts that currently provide busing for the 2018-2019 school year is listed below. OLMA offers alternative transportation options to support students without busing; details are provided below.
If you are interested in OLMA and would like more information about transportation, please reach out to Mrs. Leibman, Transportation Coordinator, at 516.921.1047 x118 Monday—Friday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM, or email@example.com. Please reach out to us even if your daughter is unsure of her high school choice so that we may keep you informed, particularly on the subsidized bus program.
Subsidized Bus Program
OLMA currently offers a subsidized bus program from the Islip/Bayshore area, and we will be providing busing from new locations based on student interest. The total cost per student, per year, is $3,250; OLMA subsidizes $1,250. Families are billed $200 monthly, for ten months, by The Parents Choice Busing Company. The second child within a family is half-price. Drop-off and pick-up locations are determined by the bus company and are based on the route and stops that year. Girls will arrive before 8:00 AM each morning and depart school at 5:00 PM each afternoon. For those on the subsidized bus, there is no bus at 3:00 PM dismissal. Students have the opportunity to attend extra help, club meetings, athletics, etc. and head home when late buses from other districts depart. Students stay in touch with each other and the driver to advise if they will not be on the bus that morning or afternoon if they are being driven by a parent or out sick.
Syosset Train Station Shuttle
For students living beyond bus limits, OLMA provides a shuttle bus service to and from the Syosset Train Station of the Long Island Railroad. The shuttle picks students up at 7:45 AM. Return service is provided at 3:00 PM dismissal and at 5:00 PM. Students bring a certified letter from OLMA to their home train station to purchase monthly train passes with a student discount. Please visit your home train station to find out more about the cost to and from Syosset. The Syosset Train Station is on the Port Jefferson Branch of the LIRR, with transfers at Hicksville, Mineola, Floral Park, Jamaica, and Woodside for those coming from other train lines. Students sign up daily on the OLMA website, so the shuttle driver knows to expect them.
